Julian Chehirian (History) and Denise Xu (English) organized the first IHUM Salon of the academic year, titled Latent Archives. Putting in conversation their projects on Bulgaria in the Soviet period and the Chinese opium trade, their ghostly installation used audio recordings, video recordings, and self-animating objects to explore themes of memory, trauma, voice, and preservation and narration of the past.
