Asian American Studies

Proposed discussion topics for the 2021-22 academic year include "founding texts" in Asian American studies, diasporic communities, religion, memory, and food studies.

Supported by the Program in American Studies and the Program in Asian American Studies.

Tentative readings include (but are not limited to): 

  • Vivek Bald, Bengali Harlem and the Lost Histories of South Asian America

  • Claire Jean Kim, Bitter Fruit: The Politics of Black-Korean Conflict in New York City

  • Julie Otsuka, When the Emperor was Divine: A Novel

  • Viet Thanh Nguyen, Nothing Ever Dies: Vietnam and the Memory of War

  • Eric Tang, Unsettled: Cambodian Refugees in the New York City Hyperghetto
