Decentring Feminist Studies

The discipline of feminist studies has always been tainted. With the increased focus on gender and feminist theories, the primary focus has been on more Euro-centric arguments. While that certainly helps in gaining a broader understanding of gender, these binaries do not exist in the same boundaries elsewhere. The reading group thereby aims to focus on more gender theories from the rest of the world and engage with more interdisciplinary boundaries of religion, race, caste, and ethnicity. Thereby, the aim would be to focus on more feminist studies scholars whose works focus on South Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.

The group also focuses on expanding the mainstream understanding of distinct categories and complicate the existing boundaries. The goal would be to focus on more subaltern texts that support or rebuke the theory and how. The broader aim for each year would be to diversify and problematize feminist thought through diverse readings across the globe.
