Our title and theme for the 2023-2024 year takes wing from both Ben Brewster's famous Theater to Cinema (1998) and Martin Harries's recent revision Theater After Film (2016). What are the wide sites that gather for us a model of theatricality, without necessarily nominating themselves as instances of theater?Particularly, what emerges as historical realities of racialized and gendered embodiment intersect with theatrical practices and aesthetics, off the stage?
